Wolf Creek Highway (Utah State Route 35) is a stunning scenic byway that winds through the Uinta Mountains, offering beautiful views, diverse wildlife, and outdoor recreation. This lesser-known route provides a peaceful alternative to busier highways and scenic drives, making it a perfect getaway for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Wolf Creek Highway showcases the beauty of Utah’s backcountry.
Key Highlights:
Scenic Mountain Views: Panoramic vistas of the Uinta and Wasatch Mountains provide stunning photo opportunities.
Wildlife Viewing: Spot deer, elk, moose, and a variety of bird species along the route.
Hiking & Outdoor Exploration: Access to numerous trails and picnic areas for hiking, camping, nature walks, or even just pit stops.
Visitor Information:
Fees: Driving the roadway is free. Stopping inside the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest area requires a fee. Three-day, seven-day, and annual passes are available for purchase. Stopping outside the National Forest area is free to access.
Seasonal Access: Due to heavy snowfall, the byway is typically closed during winter months (October - May). It's advisable to check current road conditions here before planning your trip.
Accessibility: Paved but winding, with some steep grades. This scenic highway begins in Heber City and travels east through the Uinta Mountains, connecting to Tabiona and beyond. Additional connections tie into Highway 40, allowing for a complete driving loop back to Heber City.
