Celebrating the 20th Anniversary and New Event Dates
Heber Valley, Utah [May 7, 2024] – The Soldier Hollow Classic Sheepdog Championship & Festival, founded in 2003 by Mark Peterson, marks its 20th anniversary with exhilarating sheepdog trials and festive activities on the new dates of May 24-27, 2024, Memorial Day weekend. Again held at the picturesque Soldier Hollow venue in Heber Valley, Utah, this four-day renowned event is one of the premier sheepdog competitions of its kind globally. The Soldier Hollow Classic draws competitors from around the world and attracts over 13,000 spectators and devoted fans annually.
Nestled against the stunning backdrop of the Wasatch Back hillside and at the site of where 23 events were held during the notorious 2002 Winter Olympic Games, competitors and spectators alike are treated to a breathtaking view as skilled dogs navigate the challenging course alongside the sheep. The festival promises an array of engaging attractions, including educational demonstrations, children’s activities, sponsor booths, food and beverage vendors, merchandise stalls, and the Bohemian beer garden hosted by the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation.
The impressive construction and expansion project at the Soldier Hollow Nordic Center Competition Building was recently completed and in time for this year’s Soldier Hollow Classic. Spectators will enjoy picturesque views of the event from expansive porches, as well as additional lawn seating to the south of the new building. In previous years, the event was held over Labor Day weekend with often lingering warm summer temps. The intentional and strategic shift of event dates aims to improve working sheepdog conditions and enhance the comfort for attendees by avoiding typical Labor Day weekend heat, offering all an unforgettable experience amidst the natural splendor of Heber Valley, Utah in May.
