Jordanelle State Park

Jordanelle State Park is located in a picturesque mountain setting just minutes from downtown Heber City, Utah. This 3,068 surface-acre reservoir and park offer an array of recreation opportunities near the Wasatch Front. Camping, boating, swimming, fishing, sailing, and hiking are some of the activities to do at this very popular park. The reservoir's sandy beaches, day-use cabanas and a children's play area complete the experience. Anglers fish for trout, bass, and perch. The park offers two recreation areas, Hailstone and Rock Cliff.

Two major recreation areas access the reservoir: Hailstone (on Hwy 40 just north of Heber) and Rock Cliff (on SR-32 just west of Francis). Boating facilities at Hailstone recreation area include two separate boat ramps (one for personal watercraft), fish cleaners, an 80-slip marina with utility hookups, fuel dispensing, boat rentals, and a marina store and restaurant at Jordanelle Rentals & Marina. Three separate campgrounds with showers and utility hookups are available for those wishing to spend a few days enjoying the cool waters of Jordanelle. A perimeter trail around the reservoir accesses shore fishing areas away from crowds. Stop in at the visitor center at Hailstone or the Wasatch Mountain Institute at Rock Cliff for recreation information and to find out where to catch your limit.

Reservoir History

Since the Jordanelle reservoir began filling in 1993, stocking has been heavy. The reservoir did not open to fishing until 1995 and it was estimated that over 63,000 rainbows were caught within the first five days of opening. The reservoir now holds rainbow, cutthroat and brown trout, and small mouth bass. Bag limits have been restricted to keep this popular fishery productive. Remember to consult the current Utah fishing proclamation for limits and regulations on Jordanelle.

Winter Recreation

The Jordanelle Reservoir is quickly becoming a popular destination for ice fishing. Rainbow, cutthroat, and brown trout, along with smallmouth bass are all well stocked in Jordanelle Reservoir. Primary access is at Hailstone on Highway 40 north of Heber. Parking is plowed, restrooms are available, and the visitor center is open year-round.
