September 2024 Business of the Month: Mountainside BBQ Cleaning
This September, the Heber Valley Chamber is proud to recognize Andrew Mines, owner of Mountainside BBQ Cleaning, as the Business of the Month. With over 15 years of experience in the BBQ cleaning business, Andrew’s dedication to his craft, love for this community, and entrepreneurial spirit make him a standout figure in Heber Valley.
Andrew’s journey into the BBQ cleaning business began over a decade ago in California, where he started his company after realizing a need for professional maintenance in a common household essential: the backyard grill. His expertise extends beyond standard grills to include smokers, a crucial service for BBQ enthusiasts. BBQ cleaning became second nature to Andrew, who grew up watching his father fire up the grill five to six nights a week. That childhood experience of BBQ maintenance laid the groundwork for a career he’s come to love.
In 2019, Andrew and his wife discovered Heber Valley, Utah, when they were wed at a picturesque location in Sundance. A chance drive through Heber Valley after their wedding left the couple captivated by the valley’s natural beauty and tight-knit community. That one visit sparked the dream of making Heber Valley their permanent home. By 2022, they were residents, and Andrew had successfully transplanted his business, ready to make an impact in this growing community.
For over two years now, Mountainside BBQ Cleaning has been serving the Wasatch Back area's growing residential market, offering professional and safe BBQ cleaning services. Andrew is passionate about safety and cleanliness, ensuring that every BBQ he services is functioning optimally. From checking for gas leaks to ensuring even heating, Andrew’s approach is meticulous. Cleanliness is critical to extending the life of BBQ units, and he reminds clients to remove grease build-up and store their equipment properly—especially during the winter season.
One of Andrew’s key messages to customers is simple: "maintenance is everything." Cleaning your BBQ at least once a year can extend its life significantly, ensuring many more seasons of outdoor cooking. As the cost of BBQ replacements continues to rise, Andrew’s services help save homeowners money by extending the useful life of their units.
Beyond maintenance, Andrew’s expertise includes providing advice on BBQ purchases, maintenance tips, and even recipe recommendations. His wealth of knowledge makes him a go-to resource for all things BBQ. And he has a broad spectrum of local business connections for additional referral services.
Owning and operating a small business comes with its challenges, but Andrew wouldn’t trade it for anything. As a small business owner, he enjoys the freedom of building his dream and the opportunity to meet and collaborate with other local businesses. “There’s nothing better than owning your own business,” Andrew says. “It’s a ton of fun, even with the stress.”
Currently a one-man operation, Andrew hopes to grow his team in the near future. His goal is to hire one or two technicians to expand his service area, reaching more customers in neighboring counties.
Andrew’s appreciation for Heber Valley’s sense of community is palpable. He describes the area as a growing, yet close-knit community where local businesses genuinely care for and support each other. He’s experienced firsthand the willingness of Heber Valley businesses to collaborate and help one another thrive.
Since joining the Heber Valley Chamber in July 2022, Andrew has been an active participant in Chamber events. He recalls unloading his moving truck when he received an email about a Chamber After-Hours Mixer at Red Ledges. Impressed by the professionals he met that evening, he immediately knew the Chamber would play a significant role in his business growth.
“The Chamber is like a family,” Andrew says. “They welcome new businesses with open arms and give us the support we need to succeed.” Through networking, attending events, and engaging with other business owners, Andrew has expanded his reach and solidified Mountainside BBQ Cleaning’s place in the Heber Valley business economy.
As Andrew looks to the future, his goals are twofold: growing his business and raising his family. He and his wife are expecting their first child, a boy, and Andrew couldn’t imagine a better place to raise a family than Heber Valley. Outside of work, he enjoys OHV riding in the surrounding mountains, taking in the breathtaking landscapes, and attending local events and concerts with his wife. For Andrew, it’s all about balance—building a successful business while cherishing the beauty and tight-knit culture of Heber Valley.
Congratulations to Andrew Mines of Mountainside BBQ Cleaning. His passion for what he does, commitment to safety, and enthusiasm for community involvement are just a few of the reasons we’re proud to have him as part of the Heber Valley business community.
Whether you’re a long-time BBQ enthusiast or just looking to maintain your equipment, you can trust Andrew’s expertise and dedication to keep your grill in top shape, ensuring many more seasons of great outdoor cooking.
